Dysaesthesia in diabetic polyneuropathy.

Dosage and use

In case of severe dysaesthesia in diabetic polyneuropathy, the intravenous administration of 600 mg alpha-lipoic acid daily (equals one injection bottle Thiogamma® Turbo-Set) is recommended in adults.

In the initial treatment phase, the injection is administered intravenously over a period of two to four weeks. The intravenous administration should be carried out slowly, administering the content as a short infusion for at least 30 minutes. The infusion is administered directly out of the bottle, using a standard infusion set and the attached light protection bag. Since the active substance is light sensitive, the injection bottle should be removed from the folding box shortly before use. The minimum infusion duration of 30 minutes has to be ensured.

For maintenance therapy 300-600 mg alpha-lipoic acid in oral dosage form is applied.

One injection bottle containing 50 ml of injection solution contains 1.167,70 mg alpha-lipoic acid meglumine salt (equivalent to 600 mg alpha-lipoic acid). For other ingredients, please refer to the directions of use.

Alpha-lipoic acid, the special antioxidant

Hyperglycemia, which often occurs in diabetes mellitus patients, causes increased production of free oxygen radicals that damage peripheral nerves.

Alpha-lipoic acid is a free-radical scavenger that catches damaging oxygen radicals both in aqueous and lipid soluble cell environments, thereby counteracting the sensory disorders of diabetic polyneuropathy. Since our body can only absorb a very small quantity of alpha-lipoic acid through our diet like innards, an additional supply is recommended.

Thiogamma® contains the active ingredient alpha-lipoic acid that protects the nerve cell from damaging degradation products and free radicals, thus being able to improve nerve conductivity.
